BUMPzee vs MyBlogLog update

by Tatman

  1. One of my bumps made the widget. I’m interested to see how much traffic that’ll bring me as it gets to be morning rush on the East coast.
  2. The BUMPzee entries page is totally addictive. Before I knew it my comments were taking up half the page. I had to make myself close the tab.
  3. BUMPzee sends more than twice the unique visitors MyBlogLog does with a quarter of the effort, and my blog isn’t specifically about affiliate marketing, though I plan to do a series just for BUMPzee readers. The visitors who arrive make at least ten times the page views, no exaggeration.
  4. I love the Entries feature. It’s much clearer than Technorati’s WTF (and isn’t, you know, stupid, since its name basically tells you what it is for.)
  5. One thing I’d love to see on BUMPzee is a rolling place for BUMPzee-related questions. It feels rude to contact Scott through his page. Do you mind, Scott?

Conclusion: Though MyBlogLog brings a considerable amount of traffic, it seems to be meaningless. I’m going to see how much of a hit I take from removing the widget. If people are coming here just so their face appears on the page anyway, maybe it’s not worth it. Today starts a one week test.

Internet Marketing Tools / Outpost Earth

by Tatman

I know. I keep writing about blogging tools for internet marketing, and I swear I’ll move on soon. But right now I’m obsessed.

Outpost Earth takes the idea of submitting a link to a directory to the next level. Using your RSS Feed,  the dynamic blog directory and world network actively promotes your feed to new readers. Some features:

  • When you make a new post, the headline is fed to the front page of their site, also letting readers know the category of your words.
  • New members have their icons on the front page as well.
  • Featured posts take up the largest part of the front page – not sure at the moment how they are determined.

I haven’t had much traffic from them yet – but ease up, I just joined yesterday! I’ll have an update for you soon. Eventually, when I do my blogvertising experiment, I’m going to include them.

Eventually meaning March at the latest.
